Glitter shoes have a special kind of magic. Whether it’s a full sparkle-covered loafer or just a subtle gleam on the heel, they catch the light and turn heads wherever you go. But like any standout piece in your wardrobe, glitter needs a little extra care to keep them looking fresh, fabulous and ready for their next outing.
At habbot, we craft our range of glitter shoes using premium textiles that pair beauty with durability. Our customers are often surprised how resilient our glitter styles are, and we are yet to see a pair that have lost their sparkle. If you’re wondering how to keep your sparkly pair in tip-top shape, here’s our guide to caring for glitter shoes without dulling their shine.
1. Keeping the Sparkle Alive
You might think that glitter finishes are delicate, however our glitter shoes are crafted in quality bonded leather, and while they may shed a small amount of excess glitter when you first wear them, we find our them to be some of our most long wearing. As a general rule, avoid rubbing the surface with abrasive cloths or brushing them too hard; this can loosen or lift the glitter particles. If they’ve collected a little dust, simply tap the soles together gently or use a very soft, dry brush to sweep away dirt.
At habbot, we offer a range of shoe care, and for glitter, we'd recommend a water protector spray or the universal water & stain protector.
2. Storing Your Glitter Collection
Glitter shoes like their own space, and like all fine quality shoes, try to avoid scuffing them against rough surfaces. If you’re travelling, you can use our cotton dust bags (complimentary with all habbot shoes) to prevent them being damaged in transit. We'd also recommend stuffing the shoes with tissue paper (the same that's provided with each shoe) to help them keep their shape for both general storage and while traveling.
When at home, feel free to line them up on open shelves for all to admire (and this helps keep them ventilated), however glitter finishes are light-sensitive, so be sure to store them out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
3. Leather & Water Do Not Mix
As with all leather shoes, our glitter shoes and water don’t mix. If you spill something or step in an unexpected puddle, resist the urge to rinse. Instead, dab gently with a clean, dry cloth, then let them air dry naturally, away from heat sources. Never use a hairdryer, radiator, or direct sun to speed things up, this can can the leather to crack and weaken the adhesives - not to mention it will fade their sparkle.
4. Avoid Oils, Creams & Polishes
Unlike leather or suede, glitter doesn’t benefit from conditioning. In fact, applying shoe polish, oils, or cleaning creams can break down the adhesive or discolour the glitter. Keep your products to the leather lining or sole only.
If your glitter shoes feature leather piping around the trims or leather soles (as many habbot shoes do), you can still care for those parts with a targeted application of leather conditioner or suede brush, avoiding the sparkled areas entirely.
5. Know When (and Where) to Wear Them
Glitter shoes make an impact no matter what the occasion. We recommend styling your glitter shoes with both your dressiest party attire, or your every day denim to get the most wear out of them. You'll be stopped in the street with people asking you where they are from - trust us. As with all our leather soled shoes, it’s best to avoid muddy parks or wet conditions. If you do get them wet, be sure to let them fully air dry naturally (with no added heat) to avoid any cracking of the leather.
